Hope someone gets this email. I'm am a native New YOrker and on
this website there is a burlap sack with my grandfathers name on it. It
was used after the second war to upholster funiture. Can someone tell
me where that photo was taken?
Ik reageerde daarop dat ik de fotograaf was, dat de zak nog altijd in
mijn werkplaats hing en dat ik zeer benieuwd was wie Harry Krulewitch
was!
Het antwoord kwam snel:
Thank you for the information and your english is very good. I
do not speak dutch but I have a friend Hans Smit, a lawyer who has translated
the web page for me. Harry Krulewitch was my grandfather and he was a
member of the Produce Exchange in New York. He bought wheat from the Western
United States
and milled it in his factory in New York City. He was born in New York
City in 1867 and died there in 1945. After his death his brother carried
on the business for some time. I suspect that flour was sent to Holland
after the war as part of the Marshall Plan. My father told me all this
as I do not remember my grandfather. I was born in NYC in 1940 and still
live there.
I have never seen a Harry Krulewitch feed sack but was really surprised
and pleased that his name came up in a Google search. The internet has
made this small miracle possible
Thank You, Peter Krulewitch
Ik heb daarna aangeboden de zak naar New York te sturen omdat ik van
mening ben dat-ie daar, bij de nazaten van Harry Krulewitch hoorde.
Peter Krulewitch vond dat prachtig. Hij schreef:
Thank you for your kind offer which I will greatfully accept. I
will insist on paying any costs related to sending it to me and any other
cost you think is correct.I will frame it and have it prominently featured
in the living room of my farm.
I will also look for a replacement of a feed sack that is appropriate
for your fine web page.
Again thank you very much for your generosity and I hope to meet you on
my next trip to Europe.
